I spend a lot of time wandering through nature collecting rocks, old bottles and metal pieces as well as bones and skulls when I am lucky enough to happen upon them. I have a very deep appreciation and love for animals and hate the thought of them meeting their unfortunate end, which gave me inspiration to make their components last forever. The idea behind casting bones and skulls in metal is to make organic materials that the earth eventually takes back become archival, beautiful pieces of art that will allow them to stand the test of time.
I am at the beginning stages of creating a series of found bones & skulls and this is one of the first pieces. This unique necklace is comprised of a muskrat jawbone which I cast in sterling silver. The jawbone casting is exhibiting on sterling silver chain which has been antiqued to give a classic & macabre feel while accentuating all the beautiful textures and details in the jawbone.
